Nissan LCV BU, an integral part of Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. is truly committed to its corporate philosophy of “Enriching people’s lives” and being an enlightened corporate citizen. The BU’s commitment is corroborated by the following social projects initiated to improve and help communities.


Ideia Fixa Project in Brazil
The project was launched in 2002 to supply basic necessities to people living in poor and remote regions in Brazil. Nissan supported the project by providing finanacial assistance and lending the Frontier pickup trucks for transportation of donations.The project has expanded its operations through 8 Brazilian states, helping over 8,000 people and transporting over 62 tonnes of donations.


Feeding the Hungry with Urvan
In March 2006 Universal Motors Corporation initiated in the Philippines a unique, innovative program, which integrated product and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). This was a direct result of “Shift_” idea. The program was launched with a catchy slogan of “Prosper with Urvan” which taught buyers to use Urvan as a one-box mobile business partner to help supplement their income. The company also provided financial assistance of 1000 php as seed money to start up a business, and educational support;an offer open to all buyers. This enabled many people from low income households to become self sufficient micro-entrepreneurs.



Water Saving at Barcelona Plant
In keeping with its long term commitment to protecting the environment, Nissan’s Barcelona plant where it manufactures the Primastar van, has installed a new water recycling process. This will save 21.6 million liters of water in its paint shop. Now water used to wash almost 900 new bodies each day is filtered on site and immediately re-used, thus reducing the quantity previously sent to be purified by a dramatic 4,000 liters per hour.


Energy-Savings Award at Canton Plant
Nissan’s Canton Plant has been labeled an Energy Star Plant by the Environmental Protection Agency for 2006, 2007 and 2008.

Nissan North America’s vehicle assembly plant in Canton, Miss., has been recently recognized by the Mississippi Development Authority’s (MDA) Energy Division for outstanding achievement in energy efficiency and management. Nissan participated with the MDA and the U.S. Department of Energy’s “Save Energy Now” program to identify measures that reduced the plant’s energy consumption. The plant was able to reduce, by about 400,000 BTUs*, the amount of energy used to produce each vehicle.

The award is presented annually to businesses and organizations for successfully reducing energy consumption and carbon-dioxide emissions.

*BTU/British thermal unit – A standard unit of measurement that represents the amount of thermal energy required to increase the temperature of a pound of water one-degree Fahrenheit.
